Unusual Daffodils

These dwarf daffodils are in pots on Mum’s balcony and, although not exactly a ‘true’ daffodil shape, in the morning sunshine with a sprinkling of overnight raindrops they looked quite beautiful.

These much larger daffodils were in tight buds when we bought them in Sainsbury’s but soon opened out indoors to show two different varieties, both with very densely packed petals in their centres.

Remembering Peter Rabbit

While we were all together at Mum’s yesterday we spoke about the new Peter Rabbit film and were then prompted to remember how we would listen to the stories when we were unwell and had to stay in bed.

The stories were recorded onto a large reel to reel tape recorder placed by the bed.

We played the record on the radiogram, still a great sound and narrated by none other than Vivien Leigh!

Other treasures unearthed included early versions of the railway stories, narrated by a youthful Johnny Morris..

And a record of the Ovaltine Theme!

Sparks’s Magic Piano..

And some songs - most of which we found that we knew by heart (always wondered exactly where and when I had learned the words to ‘Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier’)!

Mum’s Special Day

Happy Birthday, Mum!  It was lovely to be able to spend the day together this year and have tea with my sister, brother and sister in law too.

Mum’s birthday always falls quite close to Mothering Sunday and so flowers were arriving thick and fast!  Not just the roses and lilies pictured here but wonderful bright tulips and daffodils too.

Lots to Do

Yesterday and today we have spent the day visiting the house, checking for issues, cleaning, photographing, planning work to be done and visiting home stores and the estate agent.  Lots to discuss, plan and do!

Jessie the cat has heard enough already!

Pucklechurch

Today was our first visit to Pucklechurch together in quite a while and we enjoyed catching up with Andrea and Steve over lunch in the cafe opposite the church.

With a blue sky and sunshine the view of the parish church was too lovely not to photograph!

Grey Monday

When we landed at Heathrow this morning our pilot advised that it was a ‘typical morning in London - grey and raining’! I guess the English Tourist Board won’t be recruiting him!

We took the National Express coach to Bath and, as we crossed North Parade bridge I took this quick snap from the rainy window of a well known view - but not looking so great this morning!
