Passing the time in North Carolina...

On arrival at Charlotte-Douglas airport this afternoon, en route to Alabama we were rather taken with the novelty clock and the concourse lined with trees.

However, at that point we did not realise that we would be seeing quite so much of it!

After a number of hours waiting - some spent sitting in the sunshine in these rocking chairs under the indoor trees -and several revisions to the planned departure time, our flight to Mobile tonight was cancelled.

After a further few hours waiting in baggage reclaim, US Airways advised that they didn't know where our luggage was and gave us each a survival kit as above to take to the local Holiday Inn Express (in the middle of nowhere, as luck would have it) where they had booked us a room.

We will be back at the airport first thing tomorrow to catch the morning flight and hope that we will meet our luggage there!

We felt quite hard done by until we met a woman travelling with two small children who had had been at the airport since 8am and had had two onward flights cancelled, a couple who had spent two days trying to get home to Alabama from Costa Rica and several teachers with a group of twenty teenagers who were offered a flight out on 1st April!  None of them had any luggage either..

Unfortunately David will be late for his meetings tomorrow and will have to turn up in his weekend clothes - hopefully only for Day 1!

  1. Hope you are more successful today. The survival kit doesn't look very big. It does not look like it includes underwear!
