Trelissick

We have visited the gardens at Trelissick, near Truro, many times but as the house has only been opened to visitors by the National Trust in the last two years, this was our first chance to see inside.

There are only a limited number of ground floor rooms open at present.  Above is an enormous mahogany book case in the Library and below cabinets of Spode china of the 20th century.

 The rooms are quite sparsely furnished with items that the National Trust managed to buy at the sale of furniture and effects conducted by Bonhams when the descendants of the Copeland family - who left the house to the Trust in 1955 - moved out two years ago.

In the Drawing Room we were told that the furnishings are much as they were when the family were living there..

The hall and stairs are very bare and work is planned to renovate them..

In the Dining Room, more Spode..

At one end of the house is a Solarium where tropical plants were grown..

The views from the house over the fields to the river are spectacular, even without the blue sky!
