This beautiful bird is a regular visitor to Mum's suet feeder, close to the kitchen window.
Until today I have only managed to catch glimpses of him as he flies away at the first sign of any movement. This time with a close up lens I was able to stand back and take a few pictures.
This feeder is designed for small birds really and to keep squirrels out so he has to work hard to reach the suet while balancing. His tail is obviously a very important part of the balancing act..
None of the photos unfortunately show the back of his head - which would reveal whether he is in fact she.. males have a red patch at the nape of the neck. Or it could be that both birds are taking turns at feeding and collecting food for their young. They are certainly making significant dents in the suet!
Well done! They are great pictures of a very elusive bird. Are they taken from the window or the door?
