Before leaving for Richmond we walked around the grounds and spa area of The Homestead. The original hot springs which have been in use here since 1766 are protected by gazebos - this is the one for the Hot Sulphur Spring which was originally used for drinking as well as taking the waters by bathing.
In the outdoor pool area is a heated swimming pool and, in the foreground, a very warm jacuzzi pool.
In the morning sunshine the pool looked very inviting and was very quiet... this could have been because there was frost on the ground and the temperature was still below zero!
Right next to the pool, an ice rink - rather more seasonal but still not busy!
On to the Spa and 'Serenity Garden' and in the foreground is a hot mineral pool. Lovely temperature. Maybe next time..
The fire-pit was welcoming although the chairs all around were thick with frost. At the back a cold water shower to use after the adjacent sauna and steam room!
Along the side of the Serenity Garden a reflexology pool...the idea being that you walk along in the water and feel the benefit of the pebbles on your feet!!
We would have loved more time to spend in these wonderful old Spa facilities.
This is the corridor leading down to the Spa from the hotel..
Quite a place to explore and it was easy to understand why many people that we met there had been visiting regularly over many years.
