Burke Lake Park

This park is a few miles away on the road to Occoquan.  It is popular for boating and fishing.

The large lake is circumnavigated by a 4.5 mile trail.

Much of the path is shaded by trees but it was still very warm.

There are many Canada Geese on the lake, as well as the occasional Heron.

We were told that Bald Eagles are nesting on an island in the lake but we didn't see them.

A model railway runs along one side of the lake.

On the more exposed part of the lake there were many milkweed plants, which are the favourites of Monarch and other butterflies - here a Yellow Swallowtail.
