Kona International Airport

Flying in and out of Kona International Airport was quite a different experience.  Virtually everything is in the open air or with minimal cover and the main buildings have straw covered roofs and are surrounded by palm trees.  Unfortunately both our flights were after dark.

There were fragrant flowering plants all around.

Chilled cabinets sold fresh flower lei garlands as we had been given on our arrival..

The Hawaiian Airlines desk was decorated, ready for Halloween!

Generally the atmosphere was relaxed and everyone waited in the warm open air until their flight was called.  Security was standard for a US airport and there was an additional screening to ensure that no fruit and vegetables were being taken off the island.
