In Search of Mount Rainier

We have very little internet connection and no phone signal in the little cabin in the mountains where we are staying tonight...but David is happy as he has been able to build a real fire!

The early part of our day was wet and gloomy.  We drove to Mount Rainier National Park and after a few stops to photograph the White River (above) and the extraordinary rainforest type mossy undergrowth beneath the huge Douglas Fir trees...

...we headed upwards to the Sunrise Visitor Center where on a clear day there are trails to wonderful views of the glacier covered mountain.

But not today..just low cloud and very chilly temperatures - 2 degrees centigrade.  We soon put some extra layers on.

Driving down the mountain road we photographed a lake and drove on.

Suddenly, at about 5 o'clock, we turned a corner and were amazed to see an extraordinary sight ahead..

Needless to say we stopped the car and together with a number of other people who had also just about given up hope of seeing the mountain, we snapped away.

  1. That was a lucky end to the day. Very frustrating when you travel so far to see something. The cabin looks cosy.

  2. Gosh -2. Hope you took your thermals. The cabin looks cosy with a fire. You must be a bit disappointed with the weather the same as when we went to The Blue Ridge mountains but the weather is so unpredictable nowadays.
