Atlantic City

When we arrived at our hotel - a Casino Resort - in Atlantic City last night, it was very misty and wet..

We walked along the boardwalk which divides the casinos, restaurants, hotels and shopping malls from the beach.  It was rather chilly and damp..

We walked as far as the Claridge Hotel - one of the early 20th century hotels from the grand times when Atlantic City was a newly popular beach destination..

Inside the hotel where we are staying the ground floor is almost entirely turned over to gaming tables and slot machines..

Not very glamorous and not very busy!

This morning I went for a walk on the beach (fully equipped with warm coat, gloves, hat, scarf!).

The sea was rather grey but quite wild.  I walked along under the piers..

Of course there were shells to be picked up..

Black cockle shells, large clams and razor clams and then something a bit bigger..

The sad carcass of a Horseshoe Crab - one of a number on the beach but this one was large - about 18 inches long.  These crabs have lived unchanged for many thousands of years.

Hard to imagine this beach as a bustling summer destination!
