Having spent the morning yesterday at the railway museum we moved on to our hotel near the Inner Harbour and walked out to explore a little. Lots of contrasting architecture in this once industrial area which now is home to many of Baltimore’s tourist attractions and hotels.
This handsome sailing ship - a sloop of war, apparently, is the USS Constellation - the last wholly sail powered fighting ship built in the US, in 1854. Now solidly docked and a museum it was unfortunately closed. Although it was a bright and sunny day, many of the seasonal attractions such as boat trips in the harbour are closed until Spring.
We climbed to the top of Federal Hill to look down on the harbour area. It is clear that the people of Baltimore are proud of their city..
The view from the top included a canon which, to me, seemed to point the wrong way..
We went on to visit one of Baltimore’s more unusual museums - the Museum of American Visionary Art - unusual on the outside as well as within!
Of course outdoor exhibits like this one covered in tiny mirrors are too tempting to be ignored..
More of the museum another day. On our way back some more views of the inner harbour as the sun went down..
And in the evening..
