Exploring Washington DC

We decided to make a start on exploring Washington today and began our tour in the garden of Smithsonian Castle on the National Mall.  As usual in the summer there were a number of exotic plants to see in giant terracotta pots which will soon be taken away to be kept warm over the winter.

Plumeria is a beautiful and fragrant flower and reminds me of Hawaii.

The 'dhobi' plant is unusual and had attracted this rather outsize bee.

Several other bees were competing for the pollen of a Ginger Lily.

Later in the day as part of our hop-on, hop-off bus tour, we visited the National Botanic Garden..

Some of the plants are beautiful..

And some, like this carrion flower, rather less so.

We did of course visit a few key landmarks too..

All in all a good day and probably a good night's sleep tonight for us all!
